"Owning a roofing company for more than 35 years, I was an extremely active person. Ten years ago I underwent surgery to correct 85% arterial blockage. During the procedure I suffered a severe stroke and became almost 100% disabled. My wife took excellent care of me, but I did nothing but walk, watch TV, eat, and I gained more than 65 pounds, becoming an uncontrollable diabetic who required insulin.
Five years later my wife left me with her sister during a two week business trip. She sent me to the gym. I not only realized that I could do things for myself, but I got stronger and saw measurable improvement. My wife and I moved to The Villages to enjoy the active lifestyle and upon moving there the doctors cleared me to drive my own golf cart and it felt great to be independent. I am disciplined and faithful to my therapy and today I exercise four hours a day, three times a week at MVP. My cholesterol is lower, my blood pressure is normal, and I’m no longer diabetic. In short, exercise saved my life!”
